I’m just a simple mortal
not knowing what I do
Livin’ day by day, you see
not anything so new.
Then I learned about your gospel
a lifetime ago
Your teachings opened worlds to me,
I felt but couldn’t know.
You brought me on a journey,
and every step I took with love
But still you didn’t know me
from your palace up above.
So close and still so far away, no matter what I do
I wanna die and go to heaven just to be up close with you.
Your holy spirit calls me from the sea, the stars and sun,
As long as there is life in me, I am your cult of one.
A good little disciple,
I worshiped you out loud,
Baring my devoted soul
in front of every crowd.
With loving adoration,
I wrote it down in text,
published my dedication
without knowing what’s next…
A dark light descended,
and you sailed down to me
Yes, kept apart by mortal bonds,
but you finally did see.
So close and still so far away, no matter what I do

And when the moment came for us
my fuckin’ universe got shook,
you gave everything right back to me
that life had ever took.
Smoldering red embers
burst into divine flame,
engulfing me in rapture
from the first moment you came.
You are my God! I am your servant!
Use me as you will!
I offer all I am to you and keep on giving still…..
Then you went away again,
back up to where you’re from
And in one instant, all at once,
everything was gone.
Divinity had left me here,
on the edge of Babylon
exquisite pain that can’t be named,
known only as Beyond.
